Changing the World For Jesus Christ

By: Pastor Daniel Ethridge

Matthew 24:14

“And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”

For the past few weeks, we’ve been walking through our mission statement at Liberty Live Church:

We exist to change lives, communities, and the world for Jesus Christ.

This week, we looked at that final part, “changing the world.” It’s a bold declaration, but it’s straight from Jesus Himself. From the Great Commission in Matthew 28 to Acts 1:8, this mission is clear: take the gospel to the ends of the earth.

But how do we do that? Let’s break it down using five powerful questions every good writer learns: Who, What, Where, When, and Why.

1. Who Are We Called to Reach?

“All nations…” (Matthew 24:14)

The Greek word for “nations” is ethnos, not political boundaries, but ethnic people groups. From tribes in the Amazon to families in New York City’s neighborhoods, the gospel is for every language, culture, and background.

God has always had a heart for the nations:

  • “All the families of the earth shall be blessed.” – Genesis 12:3
  • “My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.” – Mark 11:17
  • “Repentance and forgiveness… should be preached to all nations.” – Luke 24:47

And one day, we’ll see it fulfilled:

“A great multitude… from every nation, tribe, people, and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb.” – Revelation 7:9

Right now, over 7,000 unreached people groups remain. But the Bible promises they will be reached. Our confidence is in that victory.

2. What Will Change the World?

“This gospel of the kingdom…” (Matthew 24:14)

The only thing that truly transforms hearts and nations is the gospel of Jesus Christ. It’s not just religion or good deeds; it’s the good news that Jesus is King.

We don’t proclaim ourselves; we proclaim Him:

“For we are not proclaiming ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord…” – 2 Corinthians 4:5

We are witnesses, not salesmen. And witnessing is not just something we do, it’s who we are (Acts 1:8). Every believer is a testimony to the power of Jesus.

Our culture is filled with false prophets and counterfeit saviors. But there is only one King of kings:

“On His robe and on His thigh, He has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.” – Revelation 19:16

3. Where Are We Called to Go?

“…throughout the whole world…” (Matthew 24:14)

The mission starts right where we are, our neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, and stretches to the ends of the earth.

We live in a moment where the nations have come to us. You don’t have to travel far to meet someone from India, Egypt, or Germany. The question isn’t, “Why are they here?” It’s, “Do they know Jesus?”

At Liberty, we’re committed to going where people won’t come to us:

  • Planting churches in major cities along the East Coast (think Virginia Beach, Richmond, D.C., New York)
  • Launching multi-language services
  • Sending students on mission trips to the Navajo Nation and refugee centers
  • Partnering with organizations in the 10/40 window, where 83% of the world’s unreached live

You don’t need a pulpit to go. You just need your gifts. Teachers, doctors, entrepreneurs, soldiers, retirees, God has uniquely equipped you to reach the nations.

4. When Should We Go?

“…and then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:14)

The timing of Christ’s return hinges on the obedience of His Church. The call is not to delay, but to obey and right away.

“Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts…” – Hebrews 3:15

Jesus is not slow to return. He’s patient, giving more people the chance to believe. But every day counts.

That’s why we give to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, 100% goes to missionaries on the frontlines. It’s why we invest in Bible translation through projects like Illuminations, aiming to bring Scripture to every language by 2033.

This is not just about what we should do. It’s about when. And the time is now.

5. Why Does It Matter?

Because Jesus is coming again.

“The Lord does not delay His promise… but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance.” – 2 Peter 3:9

If we truly long for His return, we must hasten the day by finishing the task. The gospel will be proclaimed to all nations and then the end will come.

Final Challenge

What step is God calling you to take?

  • Will you pray for the nations?
  • Will you give sacrificially?
  • Will you go, whether short-term or long-term?

Let’s be the generation that finishes the task. The mission is not done until every nation, tribe, people, and language hears the good news of Jesus.

Let’s change the world for Jesus Christ!
