Liberty is one church worshipping in many locations.

We exist to change lives, communities, and the world for Jesus Christ and believe that God wants every person to know Him, find community, serve people, and leave a legacy. The Church is not just buildings, it’s people, and it’s our hope and prayer that Liberty House Parties give you the opportunity and the resources to grow closer to the Lord and connect with others.

A gathering of up to 50 people at your home to watch church together. You can watch with neighbors who don’t go to Liberty, friends that you already have from Liberty, or a mixture of both! Our Sunday services are live at 9am and 10:45am, and we encourage you to get creative with your party! You can have brunch after watching the 9am service, a cookout after watching at 10:45am, or even Sunday night dinner by watching the service on-demand…no matter what you do, just have fun!

4 Steps to Hosting a House Party

What do we do during worship?

During this time, we’ve all been learning what it looks like to experience church at home. It might look a little different for all of us. Some people like to get ready for the day, while others enjoy church in their pajamas. Some watch on their TV, while others are on their phones or computers.

Similarly, people experience the worship time in different ways as well. When you host a House Party, the bottom line for worship is that we want you to participate! This might look a little different depending on what your House Party is comfortable with. Our best recommendation is to turn the music up, stand, and sing like you usually do at church.  Turning the volume up during worship can help everyone feel more confident singing out loud, and you can help others feel comfortable by leading the way. If you are watching with people who may be unfamiliar with church or worship, it may be helpful to talk about it before the service starts, letting them know they can stand and sing, sit and pray, or participate however they would like.

House Party Prep Checklist

  • Serving Food

How will you handle food? At your House Party, you might want to plan on having food. Whether it’s an entire meal or just some snacks, take some time to think through the best way to serve it. You might want to ditch the community chip bowl and dip and pre-portion your food into smaller bowls or snack bags for each person to have. Your House Party might want to have more than one serving spoon or pre-plated meals to limit touching the same items.

  • Using the Restroom

What about the restroom situation? Normally, we wouldn’t think twice about this, but now it might be good to have a plan for it and share that plan as your guests arrive. Maybe you could have a bathroom per family if you have more than one, maybe you will want to have some disinfecting wipes and request that your guests give the room a quick wipe down when they are done, you might want to have individual disposable towelettes to dry hands after washing as well.

  • Planning the Space

Think about where you plan to watch the service, is there room to accommodate everyone while still having their own space? If not, you may want to find a different area in your home or in your yard to watch together, or lower the number of people at your House Party.

  • Disinfecting

Cleaning before and after your House Party is important. We recommend cleaning before and after your guests come and go. Guidelines for restaurants reopening call for thorough cleansing and disinfecting between each customer, including door handles, tables, chairs, and menus. People may expect the same thing as they come to your home.

  • Masks and Social Distancing

Ahead of time, have a conversation with the people who will be coming to your House Party about their expectations and feelings on wearing masks and/or staying 6 feet apart. Make sure that you keep the conversations loving and respectful of everyone’s feelings and do your best to make everyone feel comfortable.

These are just a few of our recommendations of things to think about when hosting a House Party. You may have other logistics to think through or talk about with your House Party guests. Please do what you and your guests are comfortable with and always follow guidelines of your local government.

God has placed us in Hampton Roads to reach the 1.75 million people here and to reach the 2.5 billion people in the world who have no access to the gospel. We are here for those who are not yet here! The church does not exist for itself. It is not about our comfort or convenience. Our focus is not inward but outward. When anyone asks why, remember God has called us to wrap our arms around Hampton Roads and to take the gospel to the ends of the earth. Together we are changing lives, communities and the world for Jesus Christ.
