The Power of the Cross

Good Friday is a sacred moment.

It’s a time when we pause, reflect, and remember the suffering Jesus endured on the cross for our sins. While every other Sunday we celebrate the risen Savior, Good Friday invites us to slow down and consider the cost of our salvation.

Because the truth is simple:

None of us would be in heaven apart from the cross and the blood of Jesus.

Scripture tells us:

“For the life of a creature is in the blood… it is the blood that makes atonement.” — Leviticus 17:11

Life is in the blood. And on Good Friday, we remember that Jesus gave His life so we could truly live.

Let’s look at three powerful truths about what the blood of Jesus means for us today.

1. The Blood Speaks

“Jesus’ blood speaks a better word…” — Hebrews 12:24

The blood of Jesus is not silent. It speaks.

It speaks over your past.
It speaks over your pain.
It speaks over your identity.
And most importantly, it has the final word.

From the very beginning, sin separated humanity from God. But even in that moment, God made a way. When Adam and Eve sinned, God covered them. He initiated reconciliation. That same story continues through the Passover, where the blood marked God’s people for protection and deliverance. And it ultimately points to Jesus.

Through His blood, we experience a spiritual journey:

  • Salvation — brought out of darkness
  • Deliverance — freed from our past
  • Redemption — restored to purpose
  • Fulfillment — living as God’s people

When you take communion, you are not just remembering a moment. You are stepping into a promise. The blood of Jesus is still speaking over your life today.

2. The Blood Shields

“They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb…” — Revelation 12:11

In the first Passover, the Israelites placed blood on their doorposts. And when judgment came, God said:

“When I see the blood, I will pass over you.”

That same protection is available to us today. Plead the blood over your house, your family, your marriage, and your children. The blood of Jesus is not just about forgiveness. It is about covering. It shields your life. One of the most powerful pictures of this is the reminder that when God saves you, He doesn’t just forgive you, He secures you. You are held, covered, and sealed. The enemy cannot simply take what God has redeemed.

3. The Blood Saves

“Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.” — Hebrews 9:22

This is the heart of Good Friday.

There is no gospel without the blood.
There is no salvation without the cross.

“What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.”

All throughout Scripture, sacrifices pointed to one reality: sin is serious. But those sacrifices were never the solution, they were a shadow of what was to come.

Jesus became the final sacrifice.

“This is my blood of the covenant, poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.” — Matthew 26:28

Every sin.
Every failure.
Every regret.
Paid in full.

One of the most powerful reminders is this:

“When Jesus was crucified, He was not just crucified for you. He was crucified instead of you.”

That’s the gospel.
