How to Run the Race of Faith: 3 Biblical Steps to Stay Strong in 2025

By: Pastor Corbett Casteen

The Christian life is often compared to a race—a journey of faith that requires focus, endurance, and intentionality. As we look ahead to 2025, Hebrews 12:1-2 offers powerful insights on how to run the race of faith with perseverance and purpose:

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith.”

Here are three steps to help you live fully committed to Jesus and make this year your best one yet:

1. Learn from the Examples of Faithful Believers

Hebrews 12 begins by pointing to the “great cloud of witnesses” from chapter 11, often called the “Hall of Faith.” These individuals—Noah, Abraham, Moses, and others—faced overwhelming challenges yet remained faithful because of their trust in God.mWe, too, can draw strength and wisdom by studying the lives of faithful men and women in Scripture and within our community. Surround yourself with people who encourage you to grow spiritually and walk closely with the Lord.

Practical Tip: Commit to reading your Bible daily in 2025. Whether through a one-year plan or a devotional like Pastor Grant’s Goodbye Fear, spending time in God’s Word will help you grow in faith and learn from those who’ve gone before you.

2.Remove Anything That Holds You Back

Hebrews 12:1 urges us to “lay aside every weight and sin” that hinders our spiritual growth. Just as a runner sheds anything unnecessary to run their best race, we must identify and remove distractions or sins that keep us from being fully committed to Christ. Even good things—like hobbies, work, or relationships—can become weights if they take priority over your relationship with God. Reflect on what may be slowing you down, and make changes to ensure Jesus is at the center of your life.

Practical Tip: Take time this week to evaluate your schedule, habits, and relationships. What can you let go of to focus more on your walk with God?

3. Fix Your Eyes on Jesus

The key to running the race with endurance is keeping your focus on Jesus. He is the ultimate example of faithfulness, enduring the cross for the joy of offering salvation to all who believe. By fixing our eyes on Him, we can navigate hardships with hope and remain steadfast in our faith. When challenges come, remember that Jesus is greater than anything you may face. His love, grace, and promises are your anchor through every trial.

Practical Tip: Begin each day by praying and meditating on a specific Scripture that reminds you of God’s promises. Keep your focus on Jesus, no matter what the day brings.
