Navigating Life’s Storms: Finding Faith and Hope in God’s Miracles

We do not believe in a day of miracles but in a God of miracles. What God did in days gone by, He can do for you today. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Heb. 13:8). The Bible records 35 miracles of Jesus, but He did more than that. John 21:25 says, “Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.”

As we begin a new series on the God of miracles, we’ll look at Mark 4 and a miracle Jesus performed on the Sea of Galilee. Everyone is either going into a storm, in the middle of a storm, or coming out of one. These storms, whether physical, emotional, or spiritual, teach us three important lessons.

God’s Will

Mark 4:36-37 says, “So they left the crowd and took him along since he was in the boat… A great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking over the boat.” The disciples were in a storm not because they were out of God’s will, but because they were in it. Being a Christian doesn’t exempt us from storms. In fact, storms can shake our faith and lead us to question whether Jesus cares. But remember: there are things we learn in the storm that we cannot learn on the safety of the shore.

“God whispers in our pleasures but shouts in our pain.” – C.S. Lewis

Let your storms drive you to Jesus. He cares for you (1 Pet. 5:7)!

God’s Word

The miracles of Jesus are recorded with detail showing the accuracy and trustworthiness of Scripture. In verse 35, Jesus said, “Let’s cross over to the other side.” The disciples forgot He said “we”! Don’t forget WHO is in your boat. Jesus speaks before, during, and after the storm. Focus on the WHO, not the WHAT. His word is enough.

“He stilled the storm to a whisper, and the waves of the sea were hushed.” – Psalm 107:29

God’s World

Verse 39 says, “He got up, rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, ‘Silence! Be still!’” And the storm stopped. Jesus didn’t plead, He commanded. The Creator controls creation. If He can calm a storm, He can calm your situation. He is both 100% man and 100% God. Trust in His miraculous power today.

If you are in a storm, remember: if you’re with Jesus and obeying Him, you are right where God wants you to be. His Word is true. He rules the world. And He is still the God of miracles.
