How Can I Experience True Love?

Happy New Year! Starting the year with a renewed focus on God’s Word is one of the best ways to set the tone for the months ahead. At Liberty Live Church, we’re diving into the Fruit of the Spirit, beginning with the most powerful and foundational of them all—love. Love isn’t just something we feel; it’s who God is. As 1 John 4:8 reminds us, “God is love.” This divine love, or agape love, is different from worldly love. It’s not based on attraction or friendship alone but is rooted in commitment, action, and sacrifice. So, how can we experience this love in our daily lives?

Connect to the Source of Love

God’s love is poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5). This love transforms us from the inside out, allowing us to love others deeply and authentically. Like a branch connected to a vine, we must abide in Christ to bear the fruit of love (John 15:5). Start each day by “turning on the light” through prayer and Scripture reading. Spiritual growth doesn’t come from human effort alone but by living in step with the Spirit.

Crucify the Flesh and Walk by the Spirit

True love flows when we put aside selfish desires and allow the Spirit to lead us. Galatians 5:24 says, “Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.” This process isn’t easy, but it’s necessary. Fasting and prayer can help us disconnect from the world and reconnect with God’s power. What we starve dies, and what we feed thrives. When we surrender our desires and trust God fully, His love takes root in our lives.

Demonstrate Love in Action

Love isn’t just a noun—it’s also a verb. It’s something we do. Galatians 5:13 reminds us to “serve one another humbly in love.” Whether it’s encouraging words, acts of kindness, or selfless service, love is expressed in action. Insert your name into 1 Corinthians 13. For example, “Grant is patient, Grant is kind.” Doing this brings personal accountability to how we live out God’s love.

Make Love Your Legacy

The greatest of all virtues is love (1 Corinthians 13:13). It’s the foundation of our faith and the hallmark of a Spirit-filled life. When we love as God loves, it transforms not only us but also our families, communities, and the world around us.

Experience God’s Love Today

God demonstrated His love for us through Jesus Christ. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). If you’ve never experienced this love, today is the perfect day to receive it. Pray and invite Jesus into your heart. Surrender your life to Him and experience the joy of walking in God’s love every day.
