God With Us Yesterday
The story of Emmanuel began long before Jesus was born in Bethlehem. The prophecy in Isaiah 7:14—“The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Emmanuel”—was fulfilled in the birth of Jesus, as recorded in Matthew 1:23. But the promise of Emmanuel traces even further back, to the Garden of Eden. After Adam and Eve sinned, God declared that the seed of the woman would crush the serpent’s head (Genesis 3:15). This was the first foreshadowing of the virgin birth and the coming of Christ. Throughout history, God has been with His people—in the fire with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego; in the lion’s den with Daniel; and in the trials of Joseph. When we look back on our own lives, we can see how God has been faithful through every season, every struggle, and every triumph. Hindsight often reveals His hand guiding, protecting, and providing.
God With Us Today
The message of Christmas is not just about a historical event—it’s about God’s presence with us right now. Jesus didn’t come only to dwell among us; He came to ransom us, to set us free from the bondage of sin. Mark 10:45 tells us, “The Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” The incarnation was God’s ultimate rescue mission. Emmanuel entered our broken world to heal, restore, and redeem. This truth is especially comforting during the holidays, which can be a time of joy for some but also loneliness and grief for others. Whether you’re facing financial stress, missing a loved one, or simply feeling overwhelmed, take heart: Emmanuel is with you. He is your Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6).
God With Us Forever
The story of Emmanuel doesn’t end with Christmas or the cross—it continues into eternity. Jesus, the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8), is coming again. Revelation 21:3 declares, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.” The promise of Emmanuel assures us that no matter what lies ahead, we are never alone. His presence is our peace, His love is unending, and His kingdom will have no end.
Are You With God?
The question isn’t whether God is with us—He has already come to us in the person of Jesus Christ. The question is: Are you with Him? Have you received the gift of salvation through Christ? The carol reminds us to rejoice because Emmanuel has come to ransom us and lead us home. If you’re ready to embrace this truth, we’d love to walk with you.
