Why the Gospel is Too Good Not to Share: “Go Tell It on the Mountain”

Christmas is a season of celebration, joy, and the ultimate good news: Jesus Christ is born! One carol that captures this excitement is the beloved “Go Tell It on the Mountain.” It’s more than a song—it’s a call to action for every believer. But why is sharing the gospel so important, and how can we do it in our everyday lives? Let’s explore the message of this powerful carol and what it means to carry the good news to the world.

The Gospel Is for Everyone

The message of “Go Tell It on the Mountain” reflects the angelic announcement to the shepherds in Luke 2: “I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.”

The good news of Jesus is not just for a select group. It’s for everyone—every race, every nation, every person. In Isaiah 52:7, we read, “How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation.” The gospel transforms lives, changes eternities, and brings peace that surpasses all understanding. It’s a message too good to keep to ourselves.

Why Should We Share?

  1. Jesus Commands It
In Matthew 28:19, Jesus said, “Go and make disciples of all nations.” Sharing the gospel is not a suggestion; it’s a command.
  2. People Need Hope
The holidays can be a joyful time, but for many, they bring loneliness, stress, and sorrow. Jesus offers the ultimate hope and peace.
  3. The Time Is Short
The Bible reminds us that “the night is coming when no one can work” (John 9:4). The opportunity to share Christ won’t last forever.

How Can You Share the Gospel?

You don’t need a pulpit to spread the good news. Here are some practical ways to go and tell:

  • Invite someone to church. Christmas Eve is the perfect time—many people are open to attending if invited.
  • Share your story. Your personal testimony of how Jesus has changed your life can impact others.
  • Be kind. Acts of kindness, coupled with sharing the message of Jesus, open hearts.
  • Leverage technology. Post a verse or an encouraging word online. Share our Christmas service.

Remember, it’s not about being perfect or eloquent. God works through willing hearts.

The Urgency of the Gospel

As the carol says, “Go tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere.” The good news is only good if it gets there in time. Who in your life needs to hear about Jesus this Christmas?
