May I take a moment of personal privilege and share a quick testimony? This summer has certainly been very different for our family. Tammy and I both have had unexpected health challenges and recoveries that have taken and are taking longer than expected. Then, just this past weekend, our son Zachary and his wife Tori gave birth to a stillborn son, their second in just a year. In September, they buried Titus James, and on Tuesday, Levi Wayne was buried right beside his brother. To put it simply, it’s been a very difficult season.
While I wish I could tell you an earth-shattering, amazing lesson I’ve learned over the past several months, there really hasn’t been one overarching one. I can tell you emphatically though that the faithfulness of God is there, even when the mountain-top experiences are not.
A senior adult lady in our church sent us a card and wrote Romans 8:38 by her signature. At first, I thought she meant to put 8:28 which reads, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” This promise is one we have been clinging to and certainly would have been applicable. But based on the rest of her card, in fact she did mean 8:38. Romans 8:38-39 says, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
No matter what we go through in life, nothing can separate us from God’s love. When He answers prayers and when it seems that He does not, when He gives us understanding into what He’s doing and when He does not, when we go through hard seasons and when we experience life’s joys, we can know that nothing can separate us from His love. Nothing He allows or doesn’t allow is separate from His love.
No matter what you are going through today, you can trust God’s love. You can trust His heart. I have no super profound lesson to share, but I can wholeheartedly say that day after day He’s sustained us. He has proven Himself over and over, and He will do the same for you. He’s faithful in every season. He can be trusted!
