Who Is Coach Gene Chizik?

Super Bowl Sunday is this coming Sunday! It’s always such a fun day when the Liberty family comes dressed in their favorite sports attire.

This year, Coach Gene Chizik will be our special guest. Coach Chizik played football and graduated from the University of Florida, and served on the coaching staff at Clemson while doing graduate work. He has also held coaching roles at North Carolina, Iowa State, and Auburn. During the 2004 season, he received the Broyles Award, which goes to the top assistant coach in the nation. The Auburn Tigers finished 13-0 that year, won the SEC title, and beat Virginia Tech in the Sugar Bowl. In 2010, they were 14-0 and went on to win the national championship. Other accolades include:

  • SEC Coach of the Year (AP) (2010)
  • Home Depot Coach of the Year Award (2010)
  • Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year Award (2010)
  • Paul “Bear” Bryant Award (2010)
  • Bobby Bowden National Collegiate Coach of the Year Award (2010)
  • Amos Alonzo Stagg Coaching Award (2011)

Coach Chizik has also held media roles for ESPNU and the SEC Network. You will definitely enjoy hearing more of his story!

Invite a friend and make plans now to be in church on Sunday. Don’t forget to wear your favorite team jersey (it doesn’t have to be football!)!
